History Cornwall has a long, mysterious and interesting history of Cornish kings, stone age settlements, and more recently mining, fishing, farming and smuggling. All these add to the rich tapestry that makes up Cornwall and becomes more and more apparent as you explore this ancient land. The best way to see Cornwall is on foot, there are thousands of miles of footpaths crossing the countryside, as well as the famous South West coast path winding it's way all around the county. Cornwall has some great cycle ways, offering spectacular views and flat terrain. The more adventurous can take to the myriad of Cornish lanes, but watch out for the somewhat steep hills and the high hedges, which can be an issue if you need to get out of the way of an oncoming lorry!

Food is another great reason to visit Cornwall! The county has recently gone through a food revolution, the standard of hotel food has greatly increased, with an emphasis on low food miles, freshness and presentation. Fish is of course ever popular, with most of the pubs and restaurants on our website offering superb locally caught fish dishes. Close by in Padstow, Rick Stein has his ever expanding group of fine dining restaurants, cafes and shops and overlooking the vast expanse of Watergate Bay lies Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant, which opened in May '06. Take a look at our 'food and drink' page, all the establishments are well tried and tested and thoroughly recommended. Don't forget we can book for you!

Cornwall has a rich and varied wildlife, both in the sea and on the land. There's plenty to keep the naturalist happy, from Skylarks and Peregrines on the coast paths to Seals and Cetaceans out to sea, Cornwall is the ideal place for a field trip or bird watching holiday. The warmth of the gulf stream and its position on the migration path for birds makes Cornwall truly unique. Why not book a trip on the Seafari boat from Falmouth, or kayak up the river fowey, or let Tim take you on a Seashore Safari at Watergate Bay. Whatever you choose to do Cornwall is full of surprises around every corner!
